Obtaining the ISO 14001 Certification
Tufcot’s environmental focus this year is to obtain ISO 14001 certification.
ISO 14000 is a family of standards related to environmental management that exists to help organisations minimise how their operations negatively affect the environment; comply with applicable laws, regulations, and other environmentally oriented requirements; and continually improve.
This accreditation is important to us and our customers as we will be continually looking at how we can better ourselves and become more environmentally friendly over the coming years.
We are aware of the impact to our planet; we know we cannot change how the world is, but we want to do our part. For example, we will be looking at emissions to air, waste, and many other possible environmental impacts.
The ISO 14001 is a brilliant way to show us the steps we need to take to reduce environmental impacts. Once we obtain the certificate, that is when the practices will be put into place on our major projects before our next audit.

Our Solar Panel Project
We have been working closely with Sheffield University and The Transitional Energy Reach Centre over the past 3 months on a new project which provides Tufcot with a comprehensive report evaluating the feasibility of a PV (photovoltaic) installation to offset some of the current energy use within the buildings at Tufcot.
This report will be used to help us with our Solar Panel Project.

Introducing a Critical Supplier Form
ISO 14001 will give us the confidence to speak to customers and suppliers about Tufcot’s environmental impacts and how we are improving these.
It is also important to us that our suppliers and customers are aware of their environmental impacts and how they look to improve.
We decided to introduce a Critical Supplier Form and within this form we ask a range of Environmental questions – this allows us to see which companies are environmentally focused.

Improving Our Environmental Awareness
Within the new role of the Environmental Co-Ordinator, I will be implementing the changes to improve our environmental awareness. I will be carrying out internal audits as well as training sessions for all the staff at Tufcot.
Please keep in touch with our website as we will soon have more information about the Tufcot’s Environmental Projects for 2021/2022.
We will soon be creating an Environmental section on our website so please watch this space, for any further information about Tufcot please visit our website – www.tufcot.com
