One of our longest serving employees, Paul Ellis, recently completed 35 years at Tufcot.

Paul deserves huge credit for his development at Tufcot and we thank him wholeheartedly for committing a large part of his working life to Tufcot.

He can work in almost any area on the Tufcot workshop and, alongside his role as a manual and CNC machinist, is now one of four inspectors on site.

His knowledge and experience have helped Tufcot grow into one of the world’s leading composite material manufacturers.

But what changes has Paul witnessed throughout the last 35 years?

The Changes Paul Has Seen Over The Years

Paul joined Tufcot in September 1988 when the company was just 7 years old.

At that time, the business was running out a small unit on Catley Road in Sheffield and we had just 1 large lathe, 2 Capstan lathes and 2 centre lathes.

As the business progressed, Paul saw Tufcot move to larger and larger premises until, in June 2012, Tufcot arrived at its current home on Coleford Road, Sheffield, UK.

At the beginning of Paul’s career, CNC machines were just coming in. Therefore, one of the biggest changes Paul has witnessed is Tufcot’s move away from manual machining and towards CNC machining which has changed the industry thanks to its high levels of accuracy, speed, ease-of-use and enhanced capabilities.

On top of this, Paul has seen Tufcot grow from 7-8 staff members to over 50 employees.

Paul’s Next Steps

I’ve really enjoyed my time at Tufcot and it has been great to see the progression of the company over the years.

I’ve watched CNC machining largely take over from manual machining which is a relief, to be honest, because the work environment used to be so dusty and dirty.

I reached retirement age in February 2024 but plan to keep on working for the foreseeable future.

We wish to thank Paul for his many years of service.

Alongside this recognition, he will be the benefactor of the new Loyalty Bonus which is coming to Tufcot in the summer of 2024.

Thanks Paul, keep up the excellent work!
