Here at Tufcot, we are always looking for ways to reduce our energy usage and environmental impact.
As just one example of this, Tufcot’s Environmental Co-Ordinator, Beth Bagshaw, recently completed a project to recover heat from our compressed air system.
Previously, the warm air given off by the compressor had been ducted outside to the atmosphere.
However, we realised that this heat could be recovered and used to heat the Tufcot factory.
This project has helped us achieve 2 main goals:
- To lower our CO2 emissions
- To fight rising energy costs

How Can The Heat Be Recovered
The warm air given off by the compressor was previously ducted outside to the atmosphere, but we decided to re-use this wasted energy by simply ducting the hot air coming out of the compressor to a more useful place within the factory.
This simple change means a reduction in the need for purchased energy which helps towards the massive rise in energy costs and lowers our CO2 emissions.
The main benefits of recovering heat from our compressed air system are:

Thank You to Tufcot’s Maintenance Team!
We’d like to say a huge thanks to Tufcot’s in-house maintenance team, Ian and Stephen, who helped make this idea a reality.
While they are really busy in other areas, they always take the time out of their busy schedules to help with environmental projects.
Thanks a lot guys!
Future Projects
We will soon be looking to complete the same type of recovering heat project with heat from our main extraction system.
Keep an eye out for environmental updates.
