Founded in 1981, Tufcot has grown from a small family-run operation in a Sheffield garage into a global supplier of composite bearings and engineered components.
What began with a single manufacturing machine, a lathe and a small team has developed into an internationally recognised business serving customers across the marine, rail, industrial and energy sectors.
While the company has expanded considerably over more than four decades, its focus has remained consistent: delivering dependable, high-quality solutions, providing responsive customer service and building long-term relationships.

Starting in a Sheffield Garage
Tufcot was founded in 1981 by Len, Elvin and Michael, who brought together more than 40 years of experience in plastics and composite bearing technology.
Recognising the potential of Tufcot® material, they began manufacturing and engineering it for a wider range of applications.
Production started in Elvin’s garage with one manufacturing machine, one lathe and three employees.
From the beginning, the business focused on dependable products, strong customer relationships and steady progress.

Building Capability Over Time
Tufcot grew through continued investment in people, equipment and facilities.
The company moved into its first workshop in 1985, attended its first NEC exhibition in 1986 and purchased a larger Sheffield factory in 1996. This enabled the introduction of CNC machinery and a significant expansion in manufacturing capability.
In 2012, Tufcot moved to its current Coleford Road site, transferring more than 50 machines while maintaining deliveries to customers.

The Next Chapter with Dacke Industri
In December 2025, Tufcot became part of Dacke Industri, an international group of technology-driven manufacturing businesses.
The acquisition gives Tufcot access to a wider network of expertise, resources and best practice, supporting continued investment in its people, equipment and facilities.
Tufcot remains based in Sheffield and committed to the quality, service and technical support that customers have relied on since 1981.
Becoming part of Dacke Industri is the next stage in the company’s long-term growth.

Leadership for the Next Chapter
After playing an important role in Tufcot’s growth and development as Managing Director, Greg Majchrzak has now handed over leadership of the business to Carl Buddery.
Having already been a key part of the Tufcot team, Carl brings a strong understanding of the business, its people, customers and markets.
As Managing Director, he will lead Tufcot through its next phase of development following the company’s acquisition by Dacke Industri.
The transition combines continuity with fresh leadership, supporting continued investment in people, manufacturing capability and customer service.
Tufcot remains firmly based in Sheffield and committed to the quality, technical expertise and long-term relationships that have defined the business since 1981.
